French Opéra Comique in Five Acts.

Massenet’s opera Manon is in five acts. It is a tragic romance opéra comique. Libretto was written by Henri Meilhac and Philippe Gille based on the novel by the Abbé Antoine-Francois Prévost. The opera was premiered in Paris, Opéra Comique, in January 19, 1884. The setting is in Paris and Amiens in the early 18th century.
Massenet’s Manon is one of this masterful French composer’s famous operas. Along with operas, his compositional media also include orchestra, chamber music, ballet, and songs.
His pupils in Paris Conservatoire included Koechlin, Leroux, G. Charpentier, and Enescu.
